Barre Teacher Training

As some of you may know, I’ve been training to become a certified  Barre instructor for several months! Curious as to what type of training I completed?! Here’s a quick recap!

Choosing the right training

If you google “barre teacher training”, a plethora of options are available. It was a little overwhelming at first. I had a few decisions to make. The first was choosing between franchise training or private training. I opted to complete private training. This allows me to teach classes independently and not be tied to a specific studio.

Length of training

Barre teacher training can range from a day-long workshop to month-long apprenticeships. I truly wanted a solid foundation in anatomy and safety for my classes and opted for a more intensive in-depth training to prepare me as a barre instructor.

Working as a full-time pediatric nurse meant that I need a program with a flexible schedule.

Prioritizing My Values – I value authenticity, safety and anatomy (I am a nurse after all!) in barre classes. Musicality and variety in exercises are also important to me. Once I narrowed my values down, it made choosing the right training so much easier!

Barre Guild Academy

I ultimately chose to complete my teacher training through the Barre Guild Academy! I enrolled in November of 2018 and completed the training by March of 2019.  I learned the history and philosophy of barre, anatomy, safety modifications for every fitness level including pre-natal modifications, class formats, and body alignment with hands-on adjustments. This training is led by the founder of Barre & Soul, a yoga and barre studio based in Boston, MA and Portsmouth, NH.

“Barre Guild Academy is an 8-week online course that will teach you to become a certified barre instructor in an authentic Lotte Berk-based barre training.”

Here are some of my amazing instructors- their knowledge, guidance, and attention to detail helped me feel confident and prepared to start teaching my own barre classes!

I could not be happier with my decision to enroll and complete the Barre Guild Academy teacher training. My training was thorough, fun and hands-on. I am so grateful for the community that it brought me, with ongoing support from other barre teachers and continuing education opportunities.
